SIDE PROJECT OFFICE

We buy
side projects.

You built something useful. People actually use it. But you’re ready to work on something else.

We’ll buy it, take over the work, and give it a shot at a next chapter.

THIS HAPPENS A LOT

Your side project became a real thing.

Maybe you built it after work.

Maybe it was supposed to take a weekend and somehow consumed the next three years.

Maybe a surprising number of people downloaded it, subscribed to it, paid for it, bookmarked it, or started depending on it.

That’s pretty cool.

But now you have another job. Another company. Kids. A different obsession. Or you just don’t want to maintain the thing anymore.

You could shut it down.

Or you could sell it.

Get paid.

Call it an exit.

Watch it keep going.

WHY WE EXIST

We’re building the acquirer we’d want for our own side projects.

Most side projects don’t need an investment banker.

They don’t need a pitch deck, a polished data room, or six months of meetings.

Sometimes you’ve simply made something useful, you’re finished being responsible for it, and shutting it down feels like a waste.

We think there should be another option.

You built it. We’ll take it from here.

THE TWO-MINUTE TEST

You’ll know in two minutes if we’re a great fit.

01

It’s already a thing.

Not just an idea. Someone can actually use it today.

02

Real people use it.

Customers, users, subscribers, installs, downloads, traffic, reviews — some evidence that the world cares.

03

Revenue is nice. Not mandatory.

A project can have valuable distribution, users, data, reputation, or IP even if you never figured out how to make much money from it.

04

It’s mostly digital.

Software, plugins, data, newsletters, digital products, professional tools and similar businesses are our thing.

05

You can explain it over dinner.

If we can understand what it does and why someone wants it, we’re interested.

06

You actually own it.

The important code, content, IP, accounts, data, or other assets need to be transferable.

07

You’re ready to move on.

You don’t have to hate the project. You just have to be ready for it to become someone else’s responsibility.

08

Nothing sketchy.

If we’d be uncomfortable explaining how it works to our families, we’ll probably pass.

Sounds like my project

WHAT COUNTS AS A SIDE PROJECT?

More things than
you might think.

01

Software

Tiny SaaS products, utilities, browser tools and standalone applications.

02

Plugins & add-ins

Developer tools, professional-software extensions, marketplace apps and useful little utilities.

03

Newsletters

Niche publications, commercial alerts and email audiences.

04

Data products

Databases, monitoring services, alerts, APIs and information products.

05

Professional tools

Calculators, models, templates, engineering tools and specialist digital IP.

06

Useful internet oddities

Built something valuable that doesn’t fit neatly into a category? Those are often the interesting ones.

A SMALL BUT REAL MILESTONE

Yes, you get to say you sold your side project.

And you should.

You made something from nothing. Other people found it useful. Someone thought it was valuable enough to buy.

That’s an exit.

We’ll handle the boring parts, take over responsibility for the project, and try to give what you built a productive next chapter.

Looks good on LinkedIn, too.

HOW IT WORKS

Selling shouldn’t become another side project.

01

Send us the project

Give us the URL and a few basic facts. No pitch deck required.

02

We’ll take a look

If it seems promising, we’ll ask a handful of questions about users, revenue, technology and ownership.

03

We agree on something sensible

If there’s a fit, we’ll propose a straightforward purchase. No auction. We’re looking to buy projects ourselves.

04

Hand over the keys

We handle the paperwork, payment and transfer with you. Then you get your evenings back.

TO BE CLEAR

A few things we’re not.

Not a marketplace.

We’re interested in buying projects ourselves.

Not an accelerator.

Please don’t send us an idea and ask us to help build it.

Not looking for the next unicorn.

A useful niche product can be plenty interesting.

Not impressed by pitch decks.

A URL and some straightforward numbers are much more useful.

FAQ

The questions we’d ask too.

How small is too small?+

Probably smaller than you think. We’re specifically interested in projects that traditional business buyers might consider too small to bother with.

Does my project need to make money?+

No. Revenue certainly helps, but existing users, distribution, data, reputation, marketplace position, or useful intellectual property can also make a project interesting.

Do I need to quit my job and become a “founder” first?+

Please don’t. Side projects are the point.

Do I have to stay involved after I sell?+

Our goal is generally to take responsibility for the project, not buy you another job. We may need some help during the handoff, but the exact transition depends on the project.

Will you keep my project running?+

We’re buying projects because we believe they have useful life left in them. Our intention is to operate and improve what we acquire where that makes sense. We won’t promise that nothing will ever change.

Are you a broker?+

No. Side Project Office is looking to acquire projects directly.

My project is weird. Should I still send it?+

Especially if it’s weird.
